Fantastic Voyage - The Life Cycle of a Fern

My most recent project was based around The Life Cycle of a Fern, in which I decided to produce an educational video to demonstrate the process through the animation of a pop-up book. I decided to set the book in a botanical study to give the piece an 'earthy' atmosphere.

Secret Lairs - Cyborg Witch

With this project, I was given the task of designing and building a lair for the randomly generated character the 'Cyborg Witch'. Daughter to the mythical Greek gorgon Medusa, Madeus started the witchcraft movement to protect vulnerable women from the Gods and seek revenge for the murder of her mother. In an attempt to kill her, Zeus surged an electrical current into her body, forcing her to live out the rest of her days as part machine. Her lair is based around an abandoned space shuttle which crashed to Earth thousands of years after going into hiding. She uses the technological scraps from the wreckage to develop her powers.

Cinematic Spaces - Gormenghast

This project focused on producing concept art from literary works. I was given extracts from Gormenghast, which centred around a castle and its isolated inhabitants.

From Script to Screen - Black Beach

For this project I was given the words wheelbarrow, beach and salesman. With these words, we were given the task of producing a two minute animation, including all pre-production up to the pre-viz. My final idea became the tragic story of a man tricked into visiting the gloomy Black Beach, only to be confronted by The Barrowman. The apparition haunts this beach and possesses trespassers in a perpetual cycle, hoping that one day they too may rid of his curse.

2D Animation & Stop-Motion

For our final major project at Harlow College, we were given the task of producing a piece of work with only the words 'Urban Life' as some form of structure. I had already started to take on Adobe Flash in my spare time and decided to make my final piece an animation based in Victorian London. The emphasis of the piece was on the cultural divide between rich and poor, produced loosely in the style of a video game opening-sequence following a Robin Hood-style vigilante.

This video summarises the techniques and workshops we took part in to develop our traditional animation skills. Individual frames of pre-production can be seen between the chaotic stop-motion tasks we were given to act out.
